Volkswagen to Use Deep Learning to Optimize Traffic Flow

Wall Street Journal - The German automaker told CIO Journal Wednesday that it purchased graphics processing units from Nvidia.Such hardware often is used to provide the computational power for advanced deep learning algorithms. Volkswagen will partner with Nvidia to develop deep learning algorithms for mobility services including optimizing traffic flow, said Martin Hofmann, Volkswagen's chief information officer, who oversees IT for the group's 12 brands. "With deep learning, algorithms will learn from past data and predict future traffic scenarios," Dr. Hofmann said in an email.
